The Department of Financial Management, in collaboration with the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL), is delighted to announce the upcoming Quiz Competition – 2024. This event marks our second endeavor to enrich students’ knowledge and understanding, particularly in local and global aspects. It reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence and practical insights in the fields of finance and economics, and beyond, as outlined in our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IBSL. The event aligns with the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce’s silver jubilee and the University of Jaffna’s golden jubilee celebrations.

Primary Objective

To enrich the knowledge and understanding of students, focusing on financial markets, the Sri Lankan economy, and various global aspects.
Encourage the students to think beyond the text and actively participate in the extracurricular activities

Each team consists of 4 members.
Registration Requirements
Team members must present their National Identity Card (NIC) and University ID card at the registration desk.

Question Rounds Guidelines
  • Rounds 1-5 will feature 10 multiple choice questions per round (4 answer choices per question).
  • The final round will feature 10 questions seeking specific answers with no choices provided.
  • Each correct answer is equal to one point.
  • Power Play – A team will have the opportunity to double their points tally for one particular round. This is applicable only for round 1-5. Each answer sheet will have a box on the top right, and each team needs to select the Power Play round before submitting the answer sheet. In the event if two rounds are selected as the Power Play rounds, the organizing committee will consider the 1st round submitted as the Power Play round.
  • A 30 second response time will be provided per question.
Guidelines for Rapid Fire Round
  • The final round will feature 10 questions seeking specific answers with no choices provided.
  • The Quiz Master will read all 10 questions in one go.
  • Once the questions are read out; the team have one minute to answer the questions.
General Guidelines
  • The quiz will be conducted in English.
  • The questions will be announced by the Quiz Master once and also will be displayed on the multimedia screen.
  • Footages and images maybe used for question descriptions.
  • Team members will not be permitted to leave their seats during any round.
  • The use of any mobile devices by team members during a question round is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.
  • Point allocations and related system will be managed electronically under the supervision of a panel of judges and the panel’s decision will be final.
  • Points will be announced on two occasions: After round 03 and at the end of the quiz. Top 05 teams will be mentioned in the 1st results announcement.
Guidelines for Tiebreakers
  • In the event that two or more teams scores are tied up for the top three positions, the organizing committee will have a separate set of questions for the teams in the tied position.
  • The tiebreaker round will consist of five multiple choice questions. An answer sheet similar to what that was used in previous rounds will be handed out to the relevant teams where all five questions are to be answered. All teams that are tied for a winning place will take part in this round.
  • The questions will be announced by the compere once and will be displayed on the digital screen. A 30 second response time will be provided per question. Ties will be resolved based on the answers to these questions.
  • In the event of further ties, we will be going into another set of questions, where the teams in tied positions will have to answer three direct questions. Further ties will be resolved based on the answers to these questions.
  • In case if there are further ties, the teams with a higher score in the “global and local financial market” round, will be given preference during awards.
Evaluation

Members of the marking panel will consist of staff from IBSL and the Faculty.
